The ancient Tibetan Astrology is the collection of knowledge gained by the native Tibetan people over thousands of years through their familiarization with the surrounding areas in the course of observing the movements of the sun, the moon and stars, clouds and wind directions, animals, trees, lakes, snow etc.
The science taught by Lord Manju Shri, in princely form is popularly known as “elemental astrology“. This science was passed down first to the four groups of four: four requesters, and four receivers, etc.; and through their roots the teaching eventually came into Tibet. In Tibet, the translator Khampa Tramo, Master Dawa Nagpo and many others translated and spread this science and later the lineage of this teaching passed down to the scholars like Minyag Gyaltsen Palsang, Kyungnag Shakdar, Phugpa Pelgon Trinley, Dhundrup Wangyal, Desi Sangey Gyatso, Milling Lochen DharmaShri etc., and this teaching still continues to shine, both inside as well as outside Tibet, like the Sun and the Moon.
The Kalachakra Tantra forms the basis of astronomy, part of Tibetan Astrology. This science was taught by the Lord Buddha in the form of Kalachakra deity and to be transmitted through the successive Shambala kings from seven religious kings to 25 Kulika kings. The Kalachakra Tantra consist of 3 main chapters; the External Kalachakra, which deals with the motions of the celestial bodies; the Internal Kalachakra, dealing with the inner movements of the energies in a human body; and the Alternative Kalachakra, which deals with the meditational stages of development and completion of a yogi.
